Minecraft Light and Shadow Rethinking Voxels|Minecraft1.20.4

2025-01-12

The Rethinking Voxels texture pack is a modified version of Complementary Reimagined by author: gri573, aiming to achieve a relatively high running speed while allowing block lights to cast sharp shadows.

illustrate

The core concept of RethinkingVoxels in Minecraft is to convert complex geometric structures into volumetric representations of tiny cubes called voxels. This voxelization technology enhances the realism of scenes by capturing minute features and properties of objects and environments, such as material properties, lighting interactions, and dynamic deformations. ReshapeVolume texture packs can more accurately represent complex shapes and surfaces than traditional polygon-based rendering, which often requires simplification and approximation of geometry.

This texture pack also has many impressive features that will take your gaming experience to new heights. You'll love your game even more after installing these textures. One of the amazing capabilities of the RethinkingVoxels material is managing global illumination in real time. Global Illumination refers to the accurate representation of indirect lighting involving the interaction of light with different surfaces and subsequent reflection and scattering.

Things to note

The lighting system is not perfect. Occasional sudden brightness changes are a side effect of how it works and cannot be completely eliminated without affecting performance or retaining sharp shadows from the light source. If you want the latter, turn off "Per-Pixel Lighting" in "Rethinking Voxels Settings."

This texture pack was developed based on Iris and tested on AMD graphics cards on Linux systems. It also tested its performance on NVIDIA graphics cards on Linux systems. While it's generally compatible with other platforms, bugs that only occur on a specific platform weren't caught in my testing, so fixing them will take longer. To use this shader pack, the Iris texture pack loader must be equipped. OptiFine is also supported in Beta 18d and earlier.

Change log

r01-alpha4 update log:

-Optimize the reprojection function, no longer causing defects when moving

- Completely fixed the "translucent" hand issue

-Turn off debug view

r0.1-alpha3 update log:

-Added support for light source blocks (specifically `minecraft:light`, not general glowing blocks)

-Fixed the issue of incomplete rendering pipelines in the Nether and the End (there are still a lot of defects in the Nether, especially near the lava lake due to light overflow, but this is an error in the pipeline itself, not caused by missing pipelines)

-Fixed an issue where the "Iris support required" screen displays incorrect text

-Fixed some shader options menu

-Fixed "translucent hands" issue

r01-alpha2 update log:

-Re-implemented and improved handheld light source effect

-Updated to refactored version r2.2
